1. What tourism and/or hospitality course are you currently studying at school?

We are currently enrolled in Certificate II in Hospitality.

2. How did the Gateway to Industry 3-day Work Experience Program at Royal Pines Resort in 2023 shape/influence your passion for the hospitality and tourism industry?

It provided me with an insider’s view of what goes on behind the scenes and the preparations involved. Although it was hard work, most of the time, the employees didn’t have much for me to do, so I found myself standing around.

3. What was your biggest learning experience or highlight from the work experience at Royal Pines?

My most significant learning experience was getting to know the people around me and learning to ask for help when necessary. I also thoroughly enjoyed meeting other students.

4. What have you found most rewarding so far from ANY involvement in industry training experiences offered to you (this can include school-based Café or your part-time, casual work)?

The most rewarding aspect of the experience was the food.

5. What skills from the experiences/programs you have participated in will help you when applying for your future dream job? (e.g. Customer service skills, learning to be adaptable across departments, etc.)

The skills I acquired include mastering the art of cracking 65-degree eggs and performing waitress tasks. These skills could prove invaluable in my dream job as a Barista.

6. What advice would you give someone considering studying tourism and hospitality?

I advise them to recognize that full commitment is essential, as it’s not an easy endeavor.

7. Do you have any career plans or ambitions upon graduating Year 12? (This could include further study, finding employment in a certain industry?)

Upon graduating, I aspire to become a Barista. This ambition has been with me since I was 15, from the moment I laid my hands on an espresso machine for the first time.
