Meet Chantelle

Recently completing a Certificate II in Tourism and Hospitality in High School, Chantelle is now working full time in a hotel and completing her Certificate III in Hospitality for the next 12 months. She attributes her participation in the Gateway to industry training opportunities in accelerating her drive towards building a long term career in the industry.

1. What tourism and/or hospitality course are you currently studying at school?

I am currently about to finish my Cert II in Tourism and Cert II in Hospitality. I am about to start a Cert III in Hospitality through my work that will go for 12 months

2. How did the Gateway to Industry 3-day Work Experience Program at Royal Pines Resort in 2022 shape/influence your passion for hospitality?

It pushed me to look forward to the future as I have always been interested in the tourism industry but it has made me even more confident about being able to succeed in the industry.

3. What was your biggest learning experience from the work experience at Royal Pines?

That there are so many departments and roles that help a hotel run smoothly.

4. What have you found most rewarding so far from any involvement industry training experiences offered to you (this can include, school based Café or part time work)?

Just having extra experience towards the industry.

5. What skills from the experiences/programs you have participated in will help you when applying for your future dream job? eg. Customer service skills etc.

Knowledge of what the departments do and how to deliver effective customer service.

6. What advice would you give someone considering studying tourism and hospitality?

If you like the industry I definitely think it’s worth looking into.

7. Do you have any career plans or ambitions upon graduating Year 12? (this could include further study, finding employment in a certain industry?)

For the next 12 months I am study Cert II in Hospitality, and hopefully after the 12 months look at moving and working in a hotel along the coast.
