Meet Max

Max has recently completed Certificate II in Tourism. Max loved having the opportunity to put theory into practise thanks to hands on training offered to him by the Gateway to Industry Program. Max is looking forward to using what he has learned to work and travel around the world as an Air Crew member.

1. What tourism and/or hospitality course are you currently studying at school?

At school during year 11 and 12, I completed a Certificate II Tourism

2. How did the Gateway to Industry 3-day Work Experience Program at Royal Pines Resort in 2022 shape/influence your passion for hospitality?

The Gateway to Industry 3-day Work Experience Program at Royal Pines Resort in 2022 shaped my passion for hospitality by making it more enjoyable and by showing me more insight about this industry. It allowed me to go behind the scenes to see what it takes to run such a large organisation.

3. What was your biggest learning experience from the work experience at Royal Pines?

When I worked in the Engineering section, I learnt how to re-do taps, worked with mechanical items, and various power sources. I found this very interesting.

4. What have you found most rewarding so far from any involvement industry training experiences offered to you (this can include, school based Café or part time work)?

I found working with a diverse group of people who all taught me different aspects of the job very rewarding.

5. What skills from the experiences/programs you have participated in will help you when applying for your future dream job? eg. Customer service skills etc.

The skills I learnt from my experience that will help me when I apply for my dream job are the ability to work in a team, adapt to different situations, and understand the fine details of the process for running a large company.

6. What advice would you give someone considering studying tourism and hospitality?

The advice I would give someone considering studying tourism and hospitality is even though you learn a lot of theory, try to use this information on the job and seek as much practical experience as you can because I found this taught me more so, than the theory work.

7. Do you have any career plans or ambitions upon graduating Year 12? (this could include further study, finding employment in a certain industry?)

When I graduate year 12, I plan to apply for the Air Force to become an Air Crew member. I would love to be able to travel around the world.
